Runner’s Edge/Long Island Tri Club
How many members are there? – Approximately 100
How do beginners find the club? – Beginners often find the club through word of mouth. They are a team sponsored by Runner’s Edge running store, that has two locations on Long Island. The store is well known on the island for its sneakers (and expert advise on running sneakers), apparel, philanthropy, sponsorship of local road races and high school races and triathlons. Runner’s Edge puts on a local triathlon every August in Oyster Bay, New York (Runner’s Edge Tobay Triathlon) that attracts a huge number of local athletes.
Does the club offer any special training days / workouts for beginners? YES. There are running workouts at multiple locations every Tuesday, including one that leaves from one of the store locations, either Farmingdale or Huntington, NY. There are group bike rides every week, usually Thursday and Saturday and/or Sunday. In the summer there are group open water swims. There is also the opportunity to swim during the year with one of our two swim coaches. Beginners are welcome to any or all of our training workouts and all workouts have different levels of athletes that participate so everyone is welcome.
Is there a mission for the club? Our Tri Team Coach Jose Lopez has a motto – “The Joy is in the Journey” and that phrase is on some of our team gear.
