Madison Gospel 5K "Socially Distanced" Run/Walk

When: July 17, 2021
Where: Madison, WI
Race type(s): 5K

We made it! We made it! We made it! What a year 2020 has been. We at the Madison Gospel 5K Foundation recognize that we are living in unprecedented times. The introduction of COVID-19 has posed a threat to the United States and the world. We at the Madison Gospel 5K Foundation recognize that this present situation has resulted in a feeling of helplessness and hopelessness in our communities. As the city of Madison continues to figure out ways to move forward in our "new normal" we want you to know that we are working extremely hard to continue to provide resources, support and assistance to Madison residents, in particular Madison residents of color, especially those most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are proud to say that we were the FIRST race to take place during the COVID-19 pandemic in Madison, WI. We worked very closely with the City of Madison Parks to ensure the success of our race. We were able to come up with a secure safety plan and were successfully able to keep everyone safe and socially distant. We were able to simultaneously host both an in-person and virtual race. There were no reported COVID-19 cases reported from the Public Health of Madison & Dane County regarding any positive cases nor near exposures resulting from the race. So, we at MG5K realized that with strategic planning, community events can be held in a safe manner.

So, with what we were able to accomplish in 2020 and with careful consideration, we at the Madison Gospel 5K Foundation would like to inform you that on Saturday July 17, 2021 we will be hosting our 3rd Annual Madison Gospel 5K "Socially Distanced" Run/Walk. This event will be both an in-person and virtual event. Our theme for this year's event is "Stand Boldly. Walk Proudly. Run Swiftly."

With your support, we will focus on providing a safe, fun, competitive racing experience for the participants while adhering to all local and state regulations, CDC social distancing and safety guidelines. Depending on what phase we are in by July 17th, to ensure maximum safety, we will only have the city’s accepted number of participants on the premises at any given time not including staff and volunteers per the Public Health of Madison & Dane County recommendations.

The event will take place on the South side of Madison at Penn Park. This looped course route was created to limit the need for participants to be in close proximity. Most of the course route will take place along the bike path which will ensure the safety of the participants, volunteers and spectators. Participants will arrive to pick up their race packets on Friday June 16th at Penn Park between the hours of 3p-7pm or on Saturday at Penn Park between the hours of 7am-8am. Participants are required to wear a mask and maintain 6 feet of distancing at all times from staff and other participants.

The mission of the Madison Gospel 5K Run/Walk is to unite the Madison community in exercising our faith, fellowship, and building a healthier city through the promotion of healthy lifestyles in all its aspects. This year proceeds will go towards creating scholarships for individuals who are improving the health of Madison residents, particularly people of color with historical barriers to healthcare access and providing financial relief to families who are experiencing hardship at this time.

Thank you all for your continued support!!! One thing we at MG5K know for certain is that if we can have an opportunity to come together and support one another we know we will make it through.

Participants will receive some amazing swag, a short-sleeve t-shirt that will be available ONLY when registered by July 1st and an awesome finisher medal.

Thank you and see you all on race day!!!!!

“And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1 NIV
