When Music Turns Colorful Chaos

Songs & Music Turn Into Colorful Chaos | What's In Your Earbuds? Run Tri Bike Everyday Athlete

Giving The Community The Aux Cord

There are moments in life where you think, “This seems like a good idea.” And then there are moments where you hand your community the aux cord and immediately realize you’ve lost all control. Welcome to What’s In Your Earbuds?, where Joe Hardin and I pretend we have a plan and then watch it dissolve in real time.

This episode started innocently enough: songs, artists, or lyrics that include colors. Red. Blue. Purple. Gold. Tangerine (yes, tangerine counts, and yes, we debated it longer than necessary). I expected maybe a handful of solid suggestions. Instead, our community showed up with over 100 song submissions, turning our Spotify playlist from 29 hours into 33 hours during one live show. Absolute chaos. Beautiful chaos.

A Playlist That Looks Like A Jackson Pollock Painting

Every Genre, Zero Rules

What happens when you let endurance athletes choose the music? You get everything. Prince deep cuts. Country bangers. Indie artists I had to Google mid-show. Hip hop classics. K-pop surprises. Songs that made me say, “Wait… WHAT song?” more times than I’d like to admit.

Krissy Murphy came in hot with Super Bowl-level hits. Mary Crider casually flexed Prince knowledge like it’s her job. First-time contributors slid into the DMs with Grateful Dead tracks. And my sister? She fact-checked me in real time, which honestly feels like her full-time role in life.

How Did We Get From Music To Pop-Tarts?

Somewhere between debating whether “Polka Dot” is a color and unpacking the story of Carlos Santana hallucinating his guitar as a snake at Woodstock, we ended up talking about Pop-Tarts, onion rings vs. French fries, and celebrity birthdays. This is what happens on this show. Music is the entry point—but the conversation always goes wherever it wants.

Why Music Matters To Endurance Athletes

For endurance athletes, music isn’t background noise. It gets us through long runs, hard rides, and workouts we didn’t feel like starting. This episode celebrates that connection. It’s about discovering new songs, revisiting old favorites, and being reminded that the best playlists aren’t built by algorithms, they’re built by people.

If you want something that makes you laugh mid-workout, introduces you to new music, and feels like hanging out with friends who love playlists as much as you do…..this one’s for you.

And if you’re wondering… yeah, we still want to know what’s in your earbuds.
