My wife and I got Ginny from a guy at our dog park in Portland, OR. She had a lot of social anxiety and wasn’t the best behaved and we were at a loss as to what to do to get her energy out and train her. So, I decided to take her trail running. That day created a trail running dog adventure story that I did not expect. She absolutely loved it! It allowed us to bond in a fun and special way, gave her more confidence, improved her behavior and made her an absolute monster—and legend of the trails.
She is down for whatever—rain or shine, up mountains, over cliff sides, you name it. As long as I’ve got some string cheese with me and she finds a big stick along the way, she couldn’t be happier. I started my own trail running apparel brand called Folklord recently, and you could say it wouldn’t exist without Ginny. Find PLENTY of Ginny content @wearfolklord in Instagram.
Does Ginny get excited when she sees you putting on your running shoes?
Typically, Ginny is sleeping when I put on my running shoes because it’s about 5 o’clock in the morning. I pick her up and carry her to the car in the garage, and when she wakes up, we are magically in a fun new place to run!
How long does Ginny run with you and how often?
Usually, Ginny runs anywhere from 5 to 10 miles with me about 3 times a week, all year long. She is no stranger to rain, snow and of course some truly gnarly climbs. A normal run for us includes anywhere from 1,000 to 3,000+ feet of elevation gain!
When she gets a run in and finishes her meal is she quick to take a nap?
I wish. No matter how tired I think she’s going to be after a run, by the time we get home she is ready to find a toy and play. My wife blames me for this.
