Lake Stevens Triathlon

When: September 11, 2021
Where: Lake Stevens, WA
Race type(s): Olympic, Sprint

Take your choice of the Sprint or Olympic distance in Lake Stevens. Both swim courses are a deep water start off of the dock at North Cove Park. The Sprint does an out and back bike course and the Olympic starts the same, but heads out further to the turn around point and returns to the park the same way. The run is one loop for the Sprint and two loops for the Olympic along the shore of the Lake with a peaceful and beautiful view of the lake.

For the 2020 event, BuDu Racing, llc planned to implement some of the following safety measures (list is not all inclusive) to maximize the safety for participants, spectators, volunteers and staff, which may occur in 2021:

Packet Pick Up

  • We will be offering packet pick up in different ways. Most likely a drive by pick up will be used in a couple of locations. For this year ONLY, per USAT we will be allowing a person to pick up for someone else. The person picking up the packet must have a copy of the driver's license and USAT card (if applicable)

Course Changes

  • This year, in accordance with general practices all events will be a SPRINT distance only. The shorter distance will require less time and contact points on course and will also lessen the number of volunteers needed

Transition Area

  • Before entering the Transition Area, the morning of the event, you will be asked:
    • If you have a fever (we may be taking temperatures as you enter)
    • If you have any COVID symptoms, or have been around anyone who does have symptoms and if yes, in accordance with the CDC recommendations, you will be asked to leave the event
  • You will be required to wear a mask prior to leaving the transition to start the event and as you tear down your equipment after the event
  • We are intending to allow 4 bikes per rack, two on each side, paying attention to how the people are on the racks around you. It will look something like this:

Bike Rack Set Up

  • We will have hand sanitizer at the entry points of the transition area

Swim

  • We will be using a time trial start for the swim (meaning you will cross a mat and enter the water), and require people maintain physical distance (6 feet) while waiting to start. Swim caps will be color coordinated to a wave, with an approximate start time, to minimize how many people are waiting to start.
  • It is vitally important that as you exit the swim, per USAT you must refrain from blowing 'snot rockets' out of your nose. We will have tissues or paper towels for you to use and dispose of in the garbage (not on the ground)

Bike

  • The course will be the SPRINT distance
  • You will be required to carry your own hydration and nutrition

Run

  • The course will be the SPRINT distance
  • You will be required to carry your own hydration and nutrition

Finish Line

  • You will be asked to remove your timing chip yourself, and the finisher award will be in a plastic bag for you to remove yourself (please dispose of the bag in a trash can)

Post Race Food

  • In order to minimize contact, we are not allowed to provide our normal spread of delicious food at the end of the event. We will have a small supply of single wrapped items for participants to enjoy

Awards

  • Since we will be having a time trial start and attempting to minimize contact we will not have our typical awards ceremony but will mail awards
  • We will provide podiums if you want to stand and take a photo

Other

  • Hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes will be available around our race venues as a courtesy. Cleaning of common venue areas will be enhanced
  • Face coverings and gloves will be provided to staff and volunteers to be used at all times
  • Athletes should come with their own face coverings at packet pick-up and wear a face covering around our event venues. If someone does not have a mask we will make one available. We are adhering to the recommendations of the CDC
  • All staff, volunteers, and participants will be asked to monitor their temperature prior to coming to the venue, including packet pick up times
  • We will be reducing touch-points and points of interaction between staff, participants, and volunteers in many aspects of the event. Packet pick up may be different than what is expected.
Aid stations will be reconfigured to minimize both athlete-to-volunteer and athlete-to-athlete contact
  • Athletes are encouraged to determine their individual level of self-reliance to further minimize interaction and touch-points with race officials and volunteers
  • Per CDC recommendations, spectators are not encouraged to come
