Island View Trail Run

When: October 29, 2022
Where: Carpinteria, CA

Join Santa Barbara County Trails Council on Franklin Trail for the 5th annual Island View Trail Run. Your past support of this race is greatly appreciated. We have started work on the North Franklin Trail, and trail crews will soon restore the north-facing route after burning in the Thomas Fire in 2017.

The race begins at Carpinteria High School, winding around the school parking lot and adjacent orchards. Then the trail emerges onto a lovely uphill single track with magnificent ocean views. A steady climb and switchbacks will take you up Franklin Canyon with numerous vistas along the way. Miles two to five follow dirt roads alongside several ranches, well-developed coastal scrub, and mixed chaparral.

The 4-mile course is an out and back, turning at the end of the first section of the single-track trail just before the dirt road gate. The 10-mile route is also an out and back but continues on a dirt road towards the top of the hillside to the beginning of the Los Padres National Forest single-track trail.

The 16-mile course is also an out and back but climbs to the top of the Santa Ynez Mountains with an elevation gain of over 5400 feet. Sx of the 16 miles is on a single track in the Los Padres National Forest with spectacular views of the islands.

Note: This course has an uphill elevation that keeps giving, so be ready to climb to the top and take in all the views on your return trip.

10, & 16-mile race requirement: Runners must have completed 10-mile trail runs in the last six months and be able to complete the distance by 2:00 p.m.
