Pittsburgh’s Wildest Ultra Running Food Challenge | Food Fight Friday at the Aid Station Run Tri Bike

Ultra running is all about endurance, mental grit, and pushing your limits—but why not add some laughter into the mix? That’s exactly what Food Fight Friday at the Aid Station presented by 7 Summits Snacks, hosted by Jason Bahamundi and Adam Lee, does! This week, they’re joined by Val Porter, who’s gearing up to crew a 100-mile ultra race in Pittsburgh. What would be at the aid station of Pittsburgh’s wildest ultra running food challenge? Watch as Val has to decide which Pittsburgh classic she’ll eat, toss, or carry to the next aid station!

How to Play: Eat, Toss, or Carry?

The rules are simple: given three ridiculous food choices, you must decide which one to eat immediately, which one to toss, and which one to carry down the trail. With ultra runners known for eating some truly bizarre things mid-race, this game is all about embracing the chaos and making the miles more fun!

Pittsburgh’s Ultra Running Food Challenge

This week’s Eat, Toss, or Carry? features three Steel City staples:
🥪 Primanti Brothers Sandwich – Stacked with fries, coleslaw, and meat
🥟 Pierogies – Doughy dumplings stuffed with potatoes and cheese
🍪 Gobs – Pittsburgh’s version of whoopie pies

Val’s Picks: A Crew Chief’s Strategy

✅ Eat: Pierogies – “Because carbs are life at Mile 80.”
🚫 Toss: Primanti Brothers Sandwich – “Fries on a sandwich? Not today.”
🎒 Carry: Gobs – “Perfect fuel for the final stretch.”

Jason and Adam had their own takes, with heated debates over ultra-runners’ real priorities: carbs, nostalgia, or pure survival?

Why Every Ultra Needs a Little Fun

Ultra running is intense, but games like Eat, Toss, or Carry? remind us that it’s about more than just the miles. Community, humor, and embracing the absurdity of our sport make the journey even more rewarding.
