Lightning Warriors Youth Triathlon Team

The Lightning Warriors – Long Island’s Youth Triathlon Team is making waves in the world of triathlon. They are promoting diversity, inclusivity, and fitness for all kids. The team was founded in 2017 by a parent who wanted to provide a local opportunity for his son to participate in youth triathlons. Since then, the club has grown significantly and currently offers coaching and facilities at no cost to its members.

The Vision: Encouraging Lifelong Fitness Starts By Inspiring Our Youth. The Mission: Triathlon for All Kids!

The club has faced its challenges especially during the pandemic. Their goal was to ensure the safety of the kids and allow them to enjoy the sport of triathlon. Despite the challenges, they have managed to build a strong foundation. This foundation has provided opportunities for their members to swim, bike, or run 4 to 5 days per week in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

The club also participates in races locally, regionally, and nationally throughout the season. Additionally, they host their own event, the Mini Maniac Youth Triathlon, which has become a highlight of the season. It’s an opportunity for the kids to put their training to the test in a supportive and fun environment.

Who Is Eligible To Join The Lightning Warriors Triathlon Team?

The Lightning Warriors triathlon team is open to kids between the ages of 7 to 18. Many of them participate until they head off to college. The club also offers free clinics to help families get involved and to bring in new members.

Triathlon is a sport that provides numerous benefits for kids. The benefits include improved physical fitness, increased self-esteem, and the development of important life skills. The club helps the kids understand goal-setting, perseverance, and teamwork. The Lightning Warriors are dedicated to promoting these benefits and inspiring lifelong fitness in the next generation.

Creating Change In The Sport Of Triathlon

By providing opportunities for kids to participate in triathlon, the Lightning Warriors promote fitness, as well as diversity and inclusivity. This is important because historically, triathlon has been a predominantly white and male-dominated sport. The club is actively working to change that by welcoming kids from all backgrounds. When the kids join they are provided a supportive and inclusive environment.

The Lightning Warriors Triathlon Team is a shining example of how to promote fitness, diversity, and inclusivity in youth sports. By providing coaching and facilities at no cost the club is making triathlon accessible to all kids. Beyond the coaching and facilities they host their own events, and offer free clinics to increase participation in triathlon. The benefits of participating in triathlon are numerous and can have a lifelong impact on a child’s physical and mental health. The Lightning Warriors are inspiring the next generation to be active, healthy, and confident individuals.
