Some runners have training partners who push their pace, share hydration strategies, or swap race-day playlists. Traci’s partner? She’s got four legs, a wagging tail, and the best pre-run dance you’ve ever seen. Meet Fennel, Traic’s best friend and marathon sidekick.

Fennel joined her life in the most unforgettable way. At the humane society in Kentucky, she stood out immediately. Fennel didn’t stand out by barking the loudest, but by being the only one who wasn’t barking at all. When Traci brought her into the meet-and-greet area, Fennel leapt into her lap and buried her head as if they’d known each other forever. That instant connection sealed it: she was going home with Traci.

Fast forward to today, and Fennel has logged more miles than most humans. She even crossed a marathon finish line this past spring. Traci has never been prouder. Watching her trot beside her mile after mile, reminding Traci that running is supposed to be joyful, simple, and done with heart.

Fennel’s pre-run ritual is legendary. The second she sees Traci reach for my running shoes or vest, she gets antsy. But when the leash comes out, that’s when the magic happens. Fennel’s paws tap, her body wiggles, and suddenly both  are hyped up for the road ahead.

Post-run, Fennel retreats to her lair: a cozy little nook between the bed and the wall. It’s her cave, her safe zone, where she naps like the true endurance athlete she is.

Running is often about pushing limits, but it’s also about companionship, trust, and joy. With Fennel by Traci’s side, every run feels less like training and more like an adventure with her best friend.

Because at the end of the day, the best running buddies don’t just share the miles…they share your heart.
