From Follower To Leader
Some runners chase medals or chase finish lines. Joshua Holi chased something much bigger.
He wanted to find himself.
When Joshua joined Enduring Minds, he didn’t start by talking about races, PRs, or mileage. Instead, he described himself as a ‘typical’ person who has been through some hard times. That simple answer said everything.
A Life Changed Forever
Years ago, Joshua made choices that led him to prison. He spent five years behind bars. During that time, he lost his freedom, but he gained something many people spend their entire lives searching for: clarity.
Instead of blaming others, Joshua took responsibility. He didn’t make excuses and he started asking questions.
What does respect mean? What does love mean? Who do I want to become?
Those questions became the foundation for a new life.

Learning Who He Really Was
When Joshua eventually discovered running, it wasn’t because he wanted to become fast. It wasn’t because he wanted medals. He wanted community.
After moving to Philadelphia following a divorce, he felt lost. Running helped him find connection. Then it helped him find confidence. That confidence grew when he completed a 24-hour stair challenge that covered more than 50 miles. The experience taught him something important.
He was capable of more than he thought. That lesson carried into every part of life.
From Follower To Leader
Today, Joshua coaches friends, leads others, and uses his experiences to help people through difficult seasons.
One of the most powerful moments of the conversation came when he admitted that everyone else forgave him before he forgave himself. That realization changed everything.
Joshua eventually understood that one mistake did not define his entire life. The same way one bad race does not define an athlete nor does a hard season define you as a person.
Why This Story Should Matter To You
His story is about growth and what is possible. Leadership often begins with learning how to follow. And that sometimes the longest journey we take is the one back to ourselves.
At Run Tri Bike, we often say there is a spot at the starting line for everybody and every body.
Joshua Holi is proof.
