Why Everyday Athletes Matter
There’s something magical about Monday mornings. Sure, the coffee hits differently, but for me, Mondays also mean another episode of Shoutout Nation presented by RTB Awards. It’s my chance to celebrate the everyday athlete. These are the people who remind us that endurance sports are about humanity before hardware.
And that matters. Matters more than anything else.
This week, Maren Williams reminded me that we’re more than pace charts and finish line photos. Her Instagram reintroduction inspired me to look at how we present ourselves online. Sometimes we hide behind medals when what people really need is our story.

The Stories Behind The Miles
Coach Becky Croft continues to challenge the endurance world with conversations around identity, vulnerability, and growth. She doesn’t just post motivational quotes and disappear into the algorithm abyss. She connects. She responds and listens. That is a trait that should be copied and pasted.
That’s what builds community.
Then there’s Shannon from Run_Shannie_Run, whose openness around mental health deserves more applause than a Boston Marathon finisher chute. Social media often turns running into a highlight reel. Shannon reminds us that struggle belongs at the starting line too.
Vulnerability Creates Connection
I also welcomed Ashley, Michelle, and Candice from the Pittsburgh Marathon community into the Everyday Athlete Clubhouse. These women embody what this movement stands for: joy, honesty, humor, and showing up exactly as they are.
Because there is a spot at the starting line for everybody and every body.
This is the real medal we should all be chasing.
