Everyday Athlete That Made Me Smile | Shoutout Nation

Everyday Athlete Inspiration Stories Run Tri Bike

I hit record on this episode of Shoutout Nation and didn’t expect to finish it smiling the entire time but here we are.

This is what happens when you stop chasing that concept of perfection and start paying attention to people. Real people. Everyday athletes. The ones showing up tired, busy, overwhelmed and still choosing movement, connection, and joy.

Welcome to the good stuff.

Why Everyday Athletes Matter

There’s a narrative out there that endurance sports are reserved for the elite, the fast, the podium chasers.

I don’t buy it. Not when I see posts like these. In 19 years of being in these sports, these are the people that inspire me. They bring me joy and I’m spreading that joy to you.

This episode was my way of turning down the noise. Think Medal Monday… but instead of success on the race course, I’ve included the everyday stuff like grit, humor, and humanity.

The Stories That Hit Different

Sub-2 and Then Some

Ryan Reynolds (nope, still not that one) went sub-2 in the half marathon. But here’s what stood out to me. It wasn’t just race day. It was the strength work, the consistency, the quiet commitment. That’s everyday athlete energy.

Plus, Ryan got a nomination from Kevin Shea and that is an everyday athlete supporting another everyday athlete

Kindness Counts More

April Pullins bought coffee for a stranger. No Strava upload. No medal. Just impact. Community when no one’s watching….sign me up!

Quarter Mile Mindset

Nick Klastava brought humor into the pain cave with a Fast & Furious approach by talking about one quarter mile at a time. Honestly, haven’t we all negotiated with ourselves mid-run like that?

Joy Is Fuel Too

Amanda Katz reminded me that empathy is heavy but joy is necessary. Sometimes that joy looks like a Rice Krispie treat before a run.

The Bigger Picture

Social media can distort what we see. Everything looks perfect. PRs are being set by everyone. Those not setting PRs are conquering world majors or UTMB.

Shoutout Nation is here to prove that it is more than that. Running is imperfect. Our days are not always going to plan. We do things that we have to do while also running.

If you know someone who deserves a shoutout, send them my way.

Let’s keep building something that feels like home.
