Animal Song For Your Running Playlist | What's In Your Earbuds? Run Tri Bike Everyday Athlete Podcast Network

 Animals, Miles, and Musical Chaos

Some episodes of What’s In Your Earbuds? start with a plan. This was not one of those episodes.

This one started the way most great endurance conversations do…someone casually mentioning a song, someone else spiraling, and suddenly we’re knee-deep in a discussion about animals in music. Titles. Lyrics. Artists. If it had fur, feathers, hooves, or questionable metaphorical meaning, it was fair game.

And honestly? It was perfect.

If you’re an endurance athlete who trains with music (which is basically all of us unless you’re a raw-dogging long runs with your thoughts), this episode was a reminder of why playlists matter. Music isn’t just noise filling the silence between aid stations. It’s pacing and distraction as well as emotion. And sometimes it’s comedy at mile 18 when the lyrics hit way harder than expected.

From Eye of the Tiger to War Pigs

What started with classics like Hungry Like the Wolf, Eye of the Tiger, and War Pigs quickly turned into a full-blown musical safari. Joe and I barely had time to breathe before our Instagram Live community showed up with deep cuts, nostalgia bombs, and songs neither of us had ever heard which is proof once again that the Everyday Athlete community has elite taste and zero chill.

And that’s the thing I love most about this show.

Why Off-the-Rails Conversations Matter

It goes off the rails because training goes off the rails. Your long run doesn’t always match the plan. Your playlist doesn’t always match your mood. And sometimes the song that carries you through the toughest mile is absolutely ridiculous and that’s okay.

We laughed and debated. We questioned lyrics we probably shouldn’t analyze too deeply. And somewhere in the chaos, we landed exactly where endurance sports live best: connection. Shared experiences. And the reminder that training is supposed to be fun—even when it’s hard.

This episode is What’s In Your Earbuds? in its purest form:

  • Laughing at ourselves

  • Letting training be playful again

  • Celebrating music that moves us…literally

  • Letting the community steer the conversation

Whether you’re listening on a recovery jog, during a long run that needs a vibe shift, or while building your next race-day playlist, this one’s meant to make you smile.
