The best thing(s) about the race:
• As a pacer and member of the crew, I truly appreciated the ease with which we could navigate the area to reach our runner with plenty of time. I have crewed / paced at races that would take more time to drive around than I had to meet the runner which led to skipping out on a crew aid station to get to the next one and be sure to be there. This is more vital than many may think.
• As a pacer, the volunteers at the aid station were top notch. Every aid station we walked into was not only stocked but the volunteers were very helpful and addressed all of our needs. Bill's Barn was a favorite.
• The course. While I was crewing, the landscape all around was gorgeous. You could get lost in the views. As a pacer, I appreciated the challenges that the climbs presented but also the opportunity to run on stretch of slightly downhill grades or flat sections. A great combination of the varying terrain makes this a great course.
What was less than ideal: The buckle award / ceremony felt a bit rushed but with hungry and tired athletes there probably isn't much that could be done.
What I didn't expect: The ease with which we were able to navigate the area. Truly an easy race to get around for pacers / crew.
Race organization: Supremely organized.
Fuel and aid stations: Excellent. The typical aid station food that one would come to expect at an ultra.
Additional info: First timers, this is the race for you. PR chasers, this is the race for you.
Overall grade: 5 stars
