The City of Travelers Rest just informed me that our WAR Fund 5K, scheduled for May 9, 2020, was canceled due to the Coronavirus scare. We will post a makeup date in the coming months.
The Wounded and Recovering (W.A.R) Fund was initially set up by Greenville County Deputies after a growing number of line-of-duty injuries occurred. Since then, we have partnered with multiple Upstate Police Departments, and have begun helping injured police officers as well!
An eleven-member board (consisting of seven law enforcement officers and four civilians) sets up yearly fundraisers — including the fourth annual W.A.R. Fund 5K, with the intent to raise funds to support our efforts. Since it's inception, the W.A.R. Fund has donated more than $40,000 to injured law enforcement personnel. As a 501(c)3, all donations are tax-deductible, and 100% of all proceeds go to wounded deputies and officers!
The primary goal of the W.A.R. Fund is to establish permanent fundraising capabilities to provide immediate financial assistance to Upstate Police Officers and Deputies in Greenville County, South Carolina, injured in the line of duty.
