The 42st annual Greenville News Run Downtown 5K is one of the oldest, largest and most-popular 5K runs in the state. The run/walk is presented by The Greenville News and Greenville Track Club. It is also a GTC Corporate Shield event and is a part of the Greenville Track Club running series.

A lot of thought has gone into planning the 2021 event. Although we're prohibited from holding a one-day event in the usual fashion, we're designed an event that's every bit as fun and interesting as the "real thing".

Introducing Run Downtown Virtual Plus!

Run Downtown Virtual Plus is a multi-weekend event, starting on January 9 and ending on January 17.
Participants in this year's event will have two race choices:

———> The CERTIFIED 5K race where participants run a certified course and are timed with our accurate Camera Timing System (CTS).

———> The STANDARD Virtual run where participants choose their own course and keep their own time.

Participants in the CERTIFIED 5K will start/finish the race at the northwest corner of the Kroc Center soccer field. The Camera Timing System will operate from 8am to 1pm, Saturday and Sunday on both weekends. The course is unsupported so runners are responsible for navigating the course and yielding to all traffic. The CERTIFIED 5K will offer awards for the top three in the following divisions: Overall M&F, Masters M&F (over 40), Grandmasters M&F (over 50), and Age Groups. We'll also keep track of Corporate Shield scoring and awards.

Participants in the STANDARD virtual run will run on a course of their own and keep their own time. Runners may upload their results to RunSignUp. However, since the courses and timing aren't certified, we won't compute standings or offer awards for the virtual run.

WHO: Runners, walkers, families….and anyone who loves cold weather!

WHAT: The kick-off fitness event for the new year. Get off the couch and hit the road!

Until December 15 – $20.00 (+ processing fee)
December 16 to January 3 – $23.00 (+ processing fee)
January 3 to January 8 – $27.00 (+ processing fee)
January 9 to January 16 – $30.00 (+ processing fee)
