Flamingo 5K

When: April 17, 2021
Where: Sarasota, FL
Race type(s): 5K, Virtual
Great news! The Flamingo 5K will be landing back in its original location spring of 2021! There will be a “real”, in-person Flamingo 5K on Saturday, April 17, 2021 from the Sarasota Event Center with a great road course.
Registration opening soon.

The live, in-person event will be capped at 400 or as otherwise approved by the City of Sarasota.

Location: Staging from the Sarasota Event Center/Sahib Shrine on the corner of Circus Boullevard and Beneva Road. Lots of easy, free parking.

Time: An open start timeframe from 7:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. allowing for social distancing. The Flamingo 5K will be professionally timed by Durti Timing. A chip start and finish, your race will begin when you cross the start mat and end when you cross the finish at the very same location.

COVID Precautions:

If you test positive or develop symptoms of COVID-19 or otherwise become ill within 14 days of the event, we request you not come to the Flamingo 5K. Please notify us before the event and we will work with you to defer, transfer or change to virtual. Temperature checks will be conducted as you arrive on-site and if yours exceeds 100.4 you will be asked to leave.

Please do not bring guests or spectators to the race area. We normally welcome everyone but this time everyone in your party should be a registered participant. On-site registration will not be available.

You will not need to wear a mask during your run or on your way to the start line. However, you will need to wear a mask or face shield to pick up your race packet and at other times around the venue when not able to appropriately distance from those outside of your household.

No water station on the course. Please bring your own if you want hydration while you run (and bring any disposable empties back with you to throw away or recycle as appropriate)

Post-race refreshments will be a grab-n-go snack bag along with water, Coke or Diet Coke.

Due to the limitations on number of participants and the way we have opted to space the start timeframes and further having participants decide when within that timeframe they will start, we will not be able to do the “normal” awards. Everyone will get their custom Flamingo 5K finisher’s medal and receive their own net/chip time to their phone or email as selected during registration. To help with proper distancing and avoid crowding, no printed results will be posted on-site. Afterwards results will be emailed and posted on RunSignUp.

We are taking precautions that will include ensuring soap is available in the restrooms, hand-sanitizer in the race area, volunteers wearing face coverings and gloves (as appropriate), frequently touched surfaces will be wiped with disinfectant wipes during the event.

We want to remind you of the CDC guidelines for your own safety:

  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Wear a mask when social distancing is difficult
  • Cover your cough or sneeze
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth with unwashed hands

We look forward to being able to see our running friends once again and hope you’ll join us!
